SMERSH [DV1500/DV1700/DV1800] are again actors of a DV release. Disjointed, pulsating and alarming electronic onslaught by US duo? No, not this time. Brought to focus with the new mini-album is the incredibly charming way SMERSH created industrial dub from 1983 on [think Sherwood gotten lost in NJ]. This planet can still be saved...
The release features five tracks that were compiled from the two cool Mirandette Popular releases "Can't orbit without you babe I & II". SMERSH was Mike Mangino and Chris Shepard and they recorded endless hours of material, never played a song a second time and were never seen on stage. DUB CHEMISTS uses tracks that were recorded for cassette-releases and its sound, although limited in dynamics and freq-range, is as welcome to our ears as it has never been before. For those of you familiar with SMERSH's typical thrashin' style of music this disc may hold a surprise because it picks their great moments of contemplative dub-influenced weirdness.
The cover is a joint work by artist PETER PROTHMANN [DV2100] and Oberst Gregor based on photos of 1930s Italian architecture and creating a swell 1980s diy impression.
